Tallån
The Lifeline Between the Lakes
Introduction to the River Tallån
The Tallån is a relatively short but ecologically and for anglers extremely important river. It directly connects Lake Tallträsket with the large Lake Bygdeträsket and serves as an indispensable migration route for the fish populations of both lakes.
Fakten zum Tallån
Fact Box: Tallån
- Type: Connecting River
- Special Feature: High fish density, Rich in structure
- Target Fish: Pike, Perch, Brown Trout
The Upper Course: From the Lake into the Forest
The Tallån begins its journey at the outlet of Lake Tallträsket. Here the river is still wide and calm before it makes its way through idyllic meadows – a paradise for fly fishers hoping for rising trout.

Fishing on the River Tallån
What fish can I expect in the Tallån?
In principle, you can encounter all fish species here that also live in the connected lakes, including pike, perch, and trout. The fish use the river for spawning and feeding.
Where are the absolute best fishing spots?
The absolute hotspots are always the inlets and outlets at the lakes. The fish concentrate here. Other top spots are the deep outer bends and pools directly below rapids.
Which fishing methods are recommended?
Spin fishing with short rods is ideal. In the pools, float fishing with worms is successful, while the riffles are suitable for light fly fishing for trout.
Does the water level play a major role?
Yes, very much so. At high water levels, the current is strong and the fish are spread out. At medium to low water levels, they concentrate in the deeper channels and pools and are easier to find.
The Lower Course: Forest River to the Mouth
After the meadows, the Tallån enters the dense coniferous forest, where its character becomes more lively and the water babbles over stones. Towards the end of its journey, it calms down again before gently flowing into the large Lake Bygdeträsket.

An Ecological Corridor
As an ecological corridor, the Tallån connects the habitats of the lakes. It allows fish to migrate and provides habitat for beavers, otters, and many bird species with its bank vegetation. In spring, the spawning of whitefish can often be observed here.
