In which waters can I find perch?
Practically everywhere! From the largest lake like Bygdeträsket to the smallest forest pond and in the slow-flowing sections of the rivers.
How big do the perch get in the region?
Fish around 25 cm are very common. However, the structurally rich lakes also offer ideal conditions for the growth of large perch ("Storabborre") over 40 cm, with fish up to 50 cm being a realistic trophy.
What are the best fishing methods?
Fishing with jigs (small soft plastics on a lead head) is extremely effective. Small spinners, wobblers, and fishing with a drop-shot rig also work very well. In winter, ice fishing with small vertical lures (Pimpel) is the method of choice.
When is the best biting time for perch?
Perch often bite throughout the day. However, they are particularly active in the evening hours in high summer when they come to the surface in schools to hunt small insects. This can often be recognized by the rings on the water surface.
Where do the big perch hang out?
The large loners are often found in the same places as zander: on underwater humps, steep drop-offs, and hard bottoms. The smaller to medium-sized perch hunt in schools along the reed edges and weed beds.
Is the perch a good table fish?
Yes, it is considered one of Sweden's best table fish! Its white, firm, and low-bone meat is a delicacy. Classically, it is fried in butter and served with mashed potatoes and lingonberries.
